PCA: Academic Excellence from All Angles

Since 1989, the Pythagoras Children’s Academy (PCA) has been a preferred option for hundreds of Chicago-area families seeking a well-rounded early educational experience for their children in Preschool – through 6th grade. PCA is widely known as the only Orthodox Christian parochial school in the western suburbs.

The Pythagorean Impact

In the spirit of Pythagoras of Samos, the school’s namesake and ancient Greek philosopher most widely known for the Pythagorean theorem. PCA’s curriculum is based on a “triangle” of three learning pillars. This triangle cannot be formed without all three sides in place, similar to the theorem where the length of three sides fit perfectly with one another to form a right triangle.

This directly relates to our school’s values, which consist of the following three pillars:

  1. Academic enrichment – top notch instruction
  2. Spiritual enrichment Orthodox Christianity
  3. Cultural enrichment – Hellenism

Taken as a whole, these pillars fit together to create an integrated balance where each pillar supports the other, thus generating a positive learning environment where children can grow, thrive and discover the beauty of learning in a nurturing and holistic environment.

PCA is also a school where students build long-lasting relationships with their peers, based largely on the common experience they share. Enthusiasm for our school is reflected in comments from alumni that range from “PCA taught me the importance of our heritage and of a supportive community at a very young age” to “I made friends that I can’t imagine not having in my life. I made memories to last a lifetime. PCA is a forever home.”

Fully recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education, PCA offers both half day and full day pre-school through 3rd grade classes. All teachers are state certified, and students enjoy individualized attention, with a low student/teacher ratio per class.

Other PCA benefits include: before and after school care, technology integration, STEM, lessons in Greek language, history and culture, a hot lunch program and extra-curricular clubs.

PCA welcomes people from all different backgrounds to their school and seeks students, faculty and staff from different backgrounds as well. Admissions and employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, sex or gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, mental or physical disability, genetic information, military or veteran status, or any other basis prohibited by federal, state, or local law.
